To seal or not to seal….
Moms and dads have enough to worry about with school back in session, extra-curricular activities underway, everything else on the hourly to-do list. Filling cavities are the last thing you need to add to that list. We have the preventative solution and it’s the best advice you’re gonna get.
The best solution we have for preventative care-outside of regular maintenance is simple. Sealants. Although brushing and flossing will get you the best cleaning around and in between your teeth, those molars are uneven and have a rough surface that leftover food and pesky bacteria can hide in. Sealants fill those uneven spaces as a thin, protective coating that will aid in stopping early decay and inevitable cavities.
According to the American Dental Association sealants reduce the risk of decay by nearly 80% in molars!
We had to highlight that fact! That is crazy high to not be scheduling an appointment right this moment.
According to the Centers for Disease Control only 43% of children ages 6-11 have sealants, and those “without sealants have almost three times more cavities than children with sealants.”
With molars appearing around age 6 (around kindergarten), sealing them as soon as possible gives you the best shot at preventing those awful mid-semester cavitiy fillings. Not to mention, the money you will save from not having those appointments. Some dental plans (honestly most) cover sealants at 100% before a certain older age, so check before you come in and take advantage of your plan’s preventative benefits.
