The Summer of Smiles
As you can see from our Facebook and Instagram posts- we like to laugh and smile a lot here at Welch Dental Group. Each interaction with one another and with our beloved patients involves some form of laughter and happiness. Getting a smile out of one another, with patients, and with any guest is our daily goal. We shared with you a little insight to our family during our work interviews (read them here) earlier this year and want to continue the fun with a Summer Smiles Campaign. For the summer, we will share with you things we find funny, advice on finding humor in your life and the benefits of having a smile all summer long.
Why a smile campaign?
First of all… why not right? If you need specific reasons though…here are a few:
1. Endorphins are released into your brain when you smile
Endorphins are the ones responsible for making us feel happy. Fake laughing at a bad joke or a fake smile to someone works just as well as the real deal. Your brain doesn’t know the difference between real or fake – it reads the positioning of the facial muscles around your pearly whites the same way. So go ahead and fake laugh at your boss’ joke at the next meeting and know it is good for you.
2. Endorphins= less stress
They are a pain killer for chronic pain, depression and bad moods. The more you are laughing, the less you are thinking about whatever is stressing you out or causing you pain. Think about it- when you bump your elbow and laugh it off- it hurts less and not as long.
3. Laughing expands the lungs, stretches out the muscles in the body and gets you moving a little bit
Each laugh session is like a mini work out for the body. It replenishes the cells from a lungful of oxygen and gets you all the benefits of a good work out at the gym. Have you ever laughed so hard that your stomach hurts? Ab workout…complete.
4. Smiling makes you more attractive
Not only does a good smile make you appear more approachable, it actually welcomes interaction. Since smiles are contagious, you draw in the right people to you when you are smiling. You will always feel more confident when you are happy and confidence makes you more attractive as well. Your contagious smile makes others feel good about themselves too, and makes you a more appealing and attractive person to be around. Win/Win.
If you aren’t convinced yet- stay tuned, follow us on social media and see how you feel at the end of the summer, after all the smiling we are about to get into.
